Aakash tablet up for sale online, costs Rs 2,500

The much awaited India’s ultra low cost tablet – Aakash – is now up for sale. Datawind, the manufactures of the tablet, has ready the tablet for sale online.The  tablet is is delivered within seven days at the price of Rs 2,500. There is no pre payment and the company would take cash on delivery.

Users, who are interested in buying the device, can visit the website www.aakashtablet.com and place the order. Powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS, This 7 inch resistive touch screen tablet houses a 366 MHz processor plus a HD video co-processor. The RAM is 256MB and Flash Memory (Storage Memory) is 2GB with microSD card option up to 32 GB. The Aakash tablet runs on the Froyo OS (Android 2.2) and features 2 USB ports, Wi-Fi and also supports optional 3G modems. The battery life is around 3 hours.

The much awaited India’s ultra low cost Aakash tablet is finally here and is creating ripples all around. Datawind launched Ubislate in India, and the student version is named as the Aakash tablet. The tablet is powered by Android 2.2 and boasts of multiple touch screen and Connexant CPU with HD video and accelerated graphics. The 7 inch display supports resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Multiple document formats are supported which includes DOC, PPT, XLS etc. On this tablet you can play games, run educational softwares and Office suite. However this tablet does not provide access to Android market place.

By February 2012, an improved and more competent Aakash-2, world’s most affordable tablet PC, is expected to be launched at the same price as its previous version. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Rajasthan has confirmed the improvements made in Aakash-1, which was launched on October 5. HRD minister Kapil Sibal said that new version of Aakash will be launched during January-February, 2012.

Aakash Tablet is not yet sold to public or distributed to students. Circulation to students is expected in one or two months.
For students, it will be distributed through universities. So, get in touch with your university officials if you are keen to get it.
